Our very first Customer Guitar of the Month contender is from Phil in Mount Richon, WA. Phil's done an amazing job with an ST-1 and the finished guitar looks spectacular. Here's what Phil said about the build:

"I gave the body a waxed finish because the grain and quilting in the timber was too nice to cover with paint. Spent some time on the neck, re seating, supergluing, leveling and re-crowning the frets as two of them were a little high, polished the finger board and replaced the dots with 8mm Mother of Pearl as one of the originals fell out whilst I was working on the fret board.

The only hardware and electrics upgrades I have made are, Pearloid pick guard and new knobs , CTS 500 ohm pots, CTS 5 way switch and I made a bone nut. I also shielded the body cavities with copper shielding tape to eliminate any hums and feedback.

The pickups sound good to me, and sounded even better with the new pots so they have stayed.

All up, a great experience and I will be buying another kit in the future."

And our second Guitar of the Month contender is a very tasty ST-1 build from Tony.

Here's what Tony says about the build:

"Well at long last its done, and it sounds great. I stained the body mahogany and then sprayed it with a clear, it looks good in the sun."

Awesome swirl effect on an LP-1 from Nadiene in Ocean Grove, VIC.

Here's what Nadiene says about getting that great effect:

"I firstly did 4 coats of undercoat then 4 topcoat then did a swirl effect by dipping the guitar in 100 litres of water at 27 celsius with 4 cups of borax and a combination of paint colours which I swirled. Then I gave it 10 coats of clear top coat and polished it."

Well done Nadiene!
That is one of the best fnishes I have seen for quite some time.
Maybe this will be the catylist to get you into scratch building your own designs?, I hope so.
It was through building a kit that I got started in the world of building custom Bass guitars.
It really isn't that hard, all you need is the skill and desire to do it, you have a great skill with finishes so I can only imagine that the rest would come naturally.
Congratulations on being the inaugural Axe of the month winner!
