I use an angry grinder with a flap disk for that, and go easy

I prepared a slurry of cedar coloured Timbermate wood filler and hand rubbed it onto the body. Hopefully this will raise and fill the grain.

Added an arm contour using a Shinto rasp-saw. Then sanded with 180 and 240 g.
