    W.A. Sheoak Semi Scratch Build

Not sure if this is the correct spot to post this on the forum, hopefully it is.

Has anyone done a build using W.A. Sheoak? Once I've completed my TL kit and then a ST kit for my wife I'm thinking about having a go at a semi scratch build (probably buy a neck to not get in too far over my head haha). Probably a LP or PRS style body shape (probably flat top to keep it a little easier). The worry I have is the weight. Sheoak is quite dense. Would be interested to hear peoples thoughts?

OK here is my opinion - based on a lot of reading and research as I really want to get into full scratch builds myself.

You can make a guitar body out of just about anything.

There is waaay to much conjecture on guitar timbers. Sure it can be a factor in the pursuit of 'tone' but there are many many other contributing factors. As a dense hardwood, theoretically, it should work fine. If you are worried about weight then chambering the body is an option, or even making it more of a 'thinline' style. I look forward to seeing where you go with it.

The other thing to think about with dense timbers is how hard they are on your tools. Factor in a lot of sharpening time.

Whilst Basswood dings quite easily it is light and easy to shape compared to some other timbers.
