    Rich's AGJM-1 Build

    Hey All,

After lurking for a while and posting in the welcome section i pulled the trigger on my first kit.

I've played around with parts casters for a long time but never built a set neck Instrument.

I was initially planning on doing a stain but i keep going back to wanting a Pelham Blue relic style build.

I will add photos of my mock build here later as the ones i took at work at 2 in the morning didn't come out so great

    Plans for the build:

    Pelham Blue Relic finish Nitro

Painted neck binding (mainly doing this as an experiment)

Carve the bevels deeper to look more like an old Gibbo one

    BareKnuckle Pig90 p-90.

I've also been looking at different brand wraparound bridges but I'm not even sure if this is worth doing? if someone could chime in that'd be great.

I'm sure there will be plenty of posts from me asking random questions

    Thanks

    Rich

Managed to get a little bit done on the kit today.

Started to shape the bevels. I used a cylinder shape block and some p120 sand paper. I thought i'd need something way more aggressive but it worked fine and didn't take too long. Still need to do a little more on the upper horn.

I also decided to reinforce the control cavity with some maple veneer. I forgot to take a pic of it glued and clamped.

I also made this little filler piece so that i have somewhere to screw in a bell shaped truss rod cover. The pencil is there to keep it off the top of the truss rod nut. I'm planning on sanding/planing it flush tomorrow.

Pablopepper did one of these kits and bought an aftermarket bridge, you should ask him which one he got

Made a small amount of progress so far. The majority of this is being done before and after work so it'll probably be fairly slow moving. Most of it was done between 3 and 4am this week and considering how tired I've been i don't think I've made any major mistakes yet

Little piece for the truss rod cover all done

Working on the headstock shaping. Looking a bit more like a rolled up newspaper than an open book.

Starting on the grain fill. I'm using Mahogany Timbermate as per recommendation from members on here.

    Grain fill continued

Final sand on the body before grain filling

    Front grain filler

Will be grain filling the back tomorrow morning.

Grain filler mix look rather watery? If it all sands off maybe reapply it a bit stiffer consistency and use an old credit card as a squeegee to really squeeze it into the pores.
