New guy can't decide on first kit

    Hey all,

My name is Rich and i live in Brisbane, Queensland. I've been playing around with guitars for a while and am looking to step up to a set neck for this build. I just can't make up my mind. Id really love to do a LP style guitar but i can't seem to see the kits on the site (maybe someone can fill me in on this). I've toyed with the idea of an EX style but I'm afraid this is far too different to any of my current guitars and the wife may notice that its a new one

i work as a Spray Painter for my day job and I've painted a fair few guitars already in both nitro and polyurethane But I'm really excited to try some stains out.

I look forward to ordering a kit and starting a build diary.

    Rich

That doesn’t sound familiar at all....no one here can relate to such a conundrum😂😜.

    Welcome....you are among friends.....👍🏾

Hand crafting guitars, because Death Rays are expensive.

    Welcome Rich.

Unfortunately the big "G" has been getting a bit litigious and the single cutway and the LP style guitars have been withdrawn as a precaution for the time being.

Wives always know when we try to slip a guitar past them anyway, so you may as well own up to it and get the EX if that is what you really want. Remind her that building guitars is the safer and cheaper way to have a mid-life crisis

However, the wife might quite like to have a Porsche of Ferrari to drive, so prefer you to have that sort of mid-life crisis better than buying some bits of wood you need to paint and glue.

You're obviously working to a different class of mid-life-crisis Simon!

What about an SG kit? They are still available and set neck. Or the prs style ones too....... so many choices!

The SG Jr kit is very nice. Cherry stain with a nice gloss lacquer over the top.

So a couple of things to consider:
"I just can't make up my mind." Get one of each - it will save wear and tear on the brain cells trying to decide.

"I've toyed with the idea of an EX style but I'm afraid this is far too different to any of my current guitars and the wife may notice that its a new one." Even if your wife doesn't notice the different shape, she will notice the sanding, the more sanding and then the even more sanding...

    Hey all

    Thanks for all the responses.

I figured the lp thing might be something legal.
The more I think about it the more the sg Jnr kit makes sense. I have an Epiphone g400 custom which I love but I also don’t
Have anything with p90 so that’s a plus. Also if I want to replace the pick up I’m only needing to buy one.

About the sanding thing, I spend most of my day sanding polyester filler and hi build primer, sanding wood is actually enjoyable
    After doing that
