Thread: Hi All :)

    Hi All :)

Just bought an ash telecaster body with rosewood fret board from Pit Bull/Adam. This will be my first kit assembly, but I have swapped a neck on a tele before and changed PUs, PGs and bridges etc.

I opted out of hardware and electronics, as I will source my own bits online. The plan is to do a fret level (if required), assemble without painting and set it up, if all is good, it will get painted (not sure on the colour yet).

    Thanks for having me

G'day. Excellent plan...just how I went about it and would recommend highly.
Get it set up and playing well without putting divots in a brand new shiny finish.
Guitar comes with no-name strings methinks for that very purpose.
Good luck with it. Let the obsession begin.
    cheers, Mark.

After initially thinking I was a Les Paul man, I find I am being drawn more and more towards Telecasters.

    Welcome Tbird.

Most of us probably have built at least one Tele (2 for me) and they are pretty easy to assemble. Only trap to look out for is scale length for the bridge and whether the bridge PUP rout needs to be enlarged, particularly forward towards end of neck heel. Don't fall into the trap of thinking everything needs to sit flush at the rear end of scratch plate and most often there will be a sizeable gap.

Have to agree that Tele's are a bit more versatile than LP's and if you do the 4 way switch mod with a position wired in series it gives an almost humbucker sound at that setting.

Hope you score some decent grain as Ash can look spectacular with the right stain.

    Cheers, Waz

Thanks for the tip, Waz. I have a few T-types here, all have different gaps. The biggest is 8mm for a CVC to 3mm on a '90s Monterey that I changed from modern type to an ashtray bridge.

I was thinking about a 4 way switch, now that you mention it

I'm in two minds about the finish. I was thinking about surf green paint, but I guess if it's a really nice piece of wood, it would be a crime to paint over it.
