That's one valuable (and probably rare) amp to have sitting idle... If not using it I'd be putting it on Reverb or on consignment at a local music store, or are you hoping its value goes up...lol.
Ha! Back in the day... the 90s... I used to run two of these rigs at bigger gigs, one either side of the drummer. I sold the one I liked the least and bought a used car with the proceeds in '97. I used to play in the sw of the uk and had a mate walk past a pub one night when I was standing inwith a different band, he said he knew it was me from that growly tone....... I think it was a top 40 band, would have given a new edge to the latest Kylie classic at the time!
Must admit, it is pretty tatty with all that playing, was well used when I bought it in '89, but never missed a beat until it started to crackle and I had it repaired by a pro here in Sydney soon after I arrived, like I said it was never the same again. Too quiet and too clean!
Bit of family history now, I'll drag it out and open it up to see I find I can see what's wrong with it one day...........

So sad that it's still crook... If I was in Sydney I'd have a look at it for you. It's such a buggar that freight up to Rocky could prove so costly due to weight ...

I'd be surprised if there weren't members on here driving up and down the coast LSL the time who could relay it up, it happens with my car club forum all the time.

I'm driving to Brisbane early on Friday morning so if it could be organised I'd be happy to take the head that far

Returning on Monday or Tuesday so probably wouldn't be able to do the return freight

    Hi Dave,

I work at Caboolture and you could drop it off with me awaiting the next leg of the journey from Sunshine Coast to Rockhampton if that is convenient.

    Cheers, Waz

Thank you so much everyone; I'm blown away with all the offers of help!!! I'm not going to be able to get the amp to Dave in time for his departure tomorrow as it is stored in my sister in laws garage and I won't have access today from work. BUT this has really motivated me to get something done about it, so I might need your help in future!
I was looking for a pic of the amp, but all of the photos are so old they won't be digitized! I did find a grainy shot of the Marshall from 1990 or so, and another from a party in 2012 there I'm setting up and you can see my Ampeg head and the 4x10 cab:

I'm trying to remember the model of the ampeg. I don't think it is a super valuable one, I remember the build date was some time in 1979. I never opened it in all the time I had it, but I remember it was 350w at 4 ohms and 200 at 8, simply loads for the gigs I did, don't know why I bought the second one!
It has a great gain knob like a guitar drive which gives it that fab sound. Playing in a 4 piece with one guitar it filled the missing frequencies in solos wonderfully.

If the output varies with the speaker impedance, then it's got a solid state power amp, so are you sure you aren't confusing it with the solid state Ampeg you had? The valve SVTs (6 x 6550) had 2 and 4 ohm output selections, with 300W output into both selections.

Hmm I didn't know that. It's the amp in the picture, perhaps it has a solid state power section? Not sure. I'll get over there in the next few weeks and get some photos

Rather large Amp head shell would suggest valves but you never know until someone has a look inside. If solid state the size of the amp head cabinet is an overkill.
