So sad, one of my favorite players who I shared the stage with quite a bit in the 1970s

Really sorry to hear that, I met Phil once when he came to Kununurra to do a guitar show at the leisure centre, pretty cool bloke, he will be missed.

Fortunately I got to see an Emmanuel Brothers gig in the late '80s. They'd come straight from a Telethon, arrived late and had the time of their lives, played until the wee hours of the morning. It was one of the most fun gigs I've ever seen.
    Current:
    GTH-1

    Completed:
    AST-1FB
First Act ME276 (resurrected curb-side find)
    ES-5V
    Scratchie lapsteel
    Custom ST-1 12 String
    JBA-4
    TL-1TB
    Scratch Lapsteel
    Meinl DIY Cajon
    Cigar Box lap steel

    Wishing:
    Baritone
Open D/Standard Double 6 twin neck

Going just by the comments by those who worked with him on my Facebook feed he was a much loved larrikin almost as much as he was loved as a guitar player.

Odd and funny stories of trips from places like Lismore to Brisbane to attend Telethons and the like, and of gigs all over the country that went one step beyond awesome, and jam sessions on pub tours that were unforgettable moments to name just a few, it is obvious to me there will be many in the larger Australian music community who will deeply feel the loss of this great Australian guitar legend .... far greater than I can find the words for....

I never caught Phil live, sadly, but everything I've ever seen of him carries an enormous sense of fun in what he was doing as well as being an immensely talented player...

    ... he will be missed.
