    I was in holden hill music on the weekend and picked up one of the nice looking acrylics, and can say it was very Heavy,

    Here is something I came across which you may be able to interface to the lighting.

    Ignore the bastardisation of the axe in the article - towards the end it details using an Arduino Micro to sense the sound and drive multi-colour lights.

    I would suggest using a clone Pro Micro (about $6 on fleabay) instead - smaller, cheaper and the same microprocessor.
