    Smile Hello to all

Hello, my name is Ross and I am a Guitarholic. There, said it.

Been coming to this forum for some time now and finally bit the bullet and got me a fine Flamed TL-1F.

I already own a 70's Stratocaster and a 90's Squire Stratocaster, so "Her Indoors" has said no to that type of expenditure from now on.

After pointing out the fiscal sense in purchasing a D.I.Y. Guitar, and explaining that it'll keep me within ear shot, (for a short while at least), she agreed to the purchase.

Just about to move house though, so once that nightmare has finished and things have settled down, I will start up a Build Diary so you all can laugh at my D.I.Y. inadequacies.

I'm really looking forward to it.

    Cheers
    Rossco

Welcome Rossco, the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem, not sure what the rest of the steps are as I got distracted thinking about building a skeleton frame Strat style guitar.

look forward to seeing your eventual diary, good luck with the moving!

Hi Rossco, welcome to the fun factory.

From memory we may have another forum member up in Newcastle that answers to Rossco too? Had me confused at first and if you get any strange comments and responses from others that may be part of it.

Nice kit to kick start your new addiction. Just need to be very, very careful sanding the extremely thin flame maple veneer. Personally, I would only contemplate a very light 180 or 240 grit dusting before applying a stain. No need to go nuts and end up sanding through which is way too easy to do.

    Cheers, Waz

Thanks FrankenWashie. Yes I'll be interested in reading my diary as well, and I'm not at all looking forward to the move. At least I'll have something to look forward to.

Thanks Waz. Yes I will be very careful - I've read about others woes in that department.
I'm also worried about glue marks. I can't see any at all, and am hoping that they don't appear once I stain. We shall see I guess.

Oh yeah, I'm in Canberra not Newcastle.

A light wipe with some turps in a clean soft cloth/rag may reveal what might be lurking about in relation to dreaded glue spots.

What part of Canberra? I grew up in Watson (last century mind you).

Thanks for the advice, I'll do just that.

As we have established that I will be extra careful sanding, does the old 0000 Steel Wool get rid of the glue (if there is any of course)?

Hmmm, steel wool is evil stuff and best left for fret polishing mainly.

A product called Goof Off can be purchase at any major Hardware Store and they should most likely have some of those toothbrush sized wire brushes too. When using Goof Off it is very powerful stuff and eventually eats through Nitrite gloves. Dabbed on to the offending glue spot with cotton rag sometimes works and if really stubborn, that is when you bring on the wire brush to be used very delicately as they easily gouge things out and add lots of scratches that are almost impossible to hide or remove.

Ok, you've officially scared me. First I'll find out if there is any glue, then I'll take some brave pills and try the Goof Off. Then I'll take a swig of the turps and try the wire brush (if I have to).

Moved to Watson in the 60's from Goulburn (small world). The Starlight was still open then.
Then moved to Petrie north Brissie (smaller world), then moved back to Tuggeranong last year (to care for my parents who are in their late 90's). Spent many blissful weekends in Caloundra and environs.

    Thanks again for the advice.
