Nice witto
Real Rics do have narrow necks. but it looks like you could fit a nut with slightly wider string spacing, but maybe only 1mm. You don't want to get the two E strings too close to the bevel on the fret ends and have the strings slipping off the ends of the frets as a result.
I fitted an epiphone sized tusq graphtec nut and sanded the sides in to mine, i haven't had an issue so far
Hi folks,
I have ordered a graphtec nut to swap out the factory plastic one.
Interested to see what difference that will make. I'm way too clumsy for this narrow a string spacing .... :-(
In the meantime I'm still re-working my neck and setup and the more I work on it, the more things I notice on the fret board itself, that need a little more work.
I'm far more happy with my fret leveling this time round. Got the neck almost completely flat and then mostly I just needed to tap home the offending frets, then a light file and good polish.
In the process of this I notice that the fret board is very dry and rough, (and quite unfinished at the end over the body), which leads me to ask ...
What do you guys do to 'finish' the fret board nicely ?
Wax ? (to fill all the little grooves and holes).
Lemon Oil ?
Hydrate type products ?
lacquer ?
sand and polish ?
Something else ?
Cheers in advance for any info ...

Dingo Tone wax is good but takes a lot if elbow grease to do the job otherwise lemon oil is an easier way to go.

Really happy with some of the remedial work I finished over the weekend.
In my original assembly I mounted the tail piece for the trapeze about 1mm off. This meant that the angle of the high E string as it passed over the bridge to the tail piece took a very obvious hard angle. (Exacerbated by the stripes on the body).
After a whole bunch of false starts and procrastinating, I finally re-drilled the screw holes to 4mm and glued and hammered some 4mm dowel in. Let it set, and re-drilled the new holes in the right spot. Worked like a charm !
In the process I found that the actual trapeze part itself is actually adjustable, allowing me to correct the 'odd' angle it sat at. (Again visible due to the fact that it's supposed to be parallel to the tapered cutout on the rear of the body.
Also moved up a gauge of strings (up to 10-46's), and the tuning issue with the G string is almost gone.
My string height at the nut is still...er, ..nuts.. way high. Since I have a new nut on the way, I have nothing to lose by modding this one a little.
Oh... I ended up using Di'Adario Lemon Oil on the fret board.. Came up a treat !
Still to go :
- fix the string height at the nut, and possibly the string spacing.
- a little more work on the fret end, they're could use more rounding.
and that should be it !
Still working slowly on this one. The old G string issue. I filed the nut slots and have made a little progress. Also realize now that I could possibly introduce a little more forward bend and maybe drop the height of the bridge a little. Not sure about this, but I guess it's reversible if I don't like the outcome.

Kinda thought I was finished with the build on this one. I managed to get the string height down quite considerably, but found a couple of really low frets. Sooo.... Back to fret leveling again.. This time for sure!
