You ahven't got any pictures of the back of the bass so I don't know what you've done regards the neck screws. But the holes in the body for the screws to go through should be just big enough for the screws not to bite into the wood, so that they can pull the neck firmly down onto the body. If the screws have to screw through the body as well, they can't do that properly.

I presume you've remembered to fit the neck plate, so the screw pressure is spread out over a wider area and the screws aren't being 0pulled into the body.

Also check that the bottom of the neck pocket and the neck heel are smooth. Sometimes the act of tightening the screws can pull the wood out around the holes, which stops the neck seating properly. Get the neck sitting flat and you'll probably find the pickup heights will be fine.
This is great discussion; thank you for this. The picture of the gap was from when I levelled the fretboard with the top of the body. To get the fretboard level with the body, it requires tipping the neck forward so that the gap appears. If I push the neck right down so it’s entirely seated flush into the neck pocket, the gap is gone, but the neck isn’t aligned straight with the body; instead it “ramps up” to the neck pickup, like this...

As for the neck screws, I haven’t assembled any of that just yet, but I will for sure include the neck plate at that stage.

I think my diary is getting confused with Qoalabear's (same kit)

I'm ok with this as long as everyone gets the help they need!

Wired the whole thing before I realized the shaft on the new switch doesnt reach all the way through the body. Picking up a new switch tomorrow. Good news is plug in test confirms everything is wired correctly.

Have you checked height where strings might be as they pass over the bridge?

That last shot showing 'ramped' effect may be required to provide correct neck break angle and if you alter how and where things seat in the neck pocket be careful that it does not create more problems elsewhere.

    Cheers, Waz

Omg it works!!! Yaaaaaaay! Split stereo pickups are so cool! Needs some more setup work on action/intonation but I'll post a demo soon.

I’m just doing a bit of reading about neck angle in guitar assembly and it’s something they may already have accounted for in the kit. In other words, the tilt angle I have may be by design to account for the bridge height and ultimate string height. A good summary can be found here..,

    http://www.tundraman.com/Guitars/NeckAngle/index.php

I’ll need to piece things together and examine the angles with a straight edge prior to any more premature conclusions.

Still working on the little details. I literally have the bass in bed with me this morning! I decided to add an official label plus a wiring diagram on the inside of the backplate (for future generations lol)

I’m loving the labels Brian, where did you get them made up?
    FrankenLab
Hand crafting guitars, because Death Rays are expensive.

I bought them at Michael's crafts store. Doing the "art" in my phone and printing them at home on the ink jet. The labels were not designed for a printer so what I do is print a proof on regular paper then carefully Scotch tape the label on top of where it printed and send the same piece of paper back through the machine again

I really wanted to write in the ohms readings for each pickup but embarrassingly I do not own a multi meter at the moment good fortune and lots of reading got this thing wired up first try thankfully
