How does the neck pocket look? A bit of paint in there can affect the angle and how it sits. By upward bow do you mean the 5th-7th frets are sitting higher than the 1st and 12th? Most of these kits have two way adjustment on the truss rod, so after its loose you can keep turning to adjust the other way. If you have a convex bend (high 5th) you can keep turning the rod anti-clockwise (looking from the head stock towards the body) and it will adjust towards being concave. If its too concave (5th-7th frets low compared to 1st and 12th) then tighten clock wise. Do you have a neck straightness gauge? Like a steel ruler or notched bit of aluminium?

I did get a thin layer of paint in the neck pocket because i forgot to mask it up when I first started spraying it.
And yes the 5th-7th frets are slightly higher I was a bit apprehensive about adjusting the truss rod any further but i didn't realise it was a 2 way adjustment I turned it anti clockwise and it got very loose at which point I stopped so I could seek some advice.
I have a 600mm steel ruler and also a notched Straightness gauge.

My guess is it is sitting too high in the neck pocket. I had that situation on both Teles and had to sand down between 5mm to 7mm to arrive at suitable height to allow for a decent low action.
    Cheers,Waz

Yes possible, but I would play with the adjustment a bit more before taking to it with any sand paper. If you keep turning it anti clock wise it should grab again and start adjusting.

Thanks for the advice fellas I made a truss rod adjustment and got the neck right and in turn was able to lower the action significantly and do proper intonation it sounds pretty good and plays better than my 2 previous builds. I'll see how she goes with it for a bit but ill most likely change out the pickups and tuners in time for better quality. Oh and the unicorn sticker is still yet to go on but i thought I'd share some pics of the finished product first.
If I'm lucky I might be able to get a shot of her seeing it finished for the first time.
