    The blue is actually tape, I sectioned the wood off for test areas

    Oppose sorry Wazkelly, silly me forgot I had the attachment pic (lol) and yes it will need smoothing, a gradual build up..got to say patience needed with a fine brush

    Thanks Marcel..and agree gradual build up. I'm thinking of trying a swatch with reverse order of paint and stain, ie paint first, recut engrave post dry, stain on the engrave areas only leaving engrave lines bare...might be fiddly. I can visualise what I want to see so just need to be patient as it will evolve
