    Total n00b getting my bearings

    Hello all,

I am a total, complete and utter non-woodworker who has taken a bizarrely sudden interest in understanding the inner workings of the guitars I have noodled around on for years. I will be lurking and reading as much as I can with a view to starting off very slowly (probably with a p-bass) and then working my way up from there. I don't have any tools or even a workspace, so this will be interesting to say the least! Thanks.

Welcome aboard. There are plenty of people doing 'dining room table' builds and getting great results. There is a wealth of knowledge on here - don't be afraid to ask 'dumb' questions. We were all new at this once.

Thanks a lot I don't actually own a dining room table or a dining room, for that matter. Frankly, I live like a monk. Rather than attempting some jerry-built OSHA fail workbench and losing several of my best fingers in the process, I was thinking of joining one of those men's sheds. https://mensshed.org. I didn't know they existed until yesterday, but they seem like a really great idea.

Welcome aboard! I’ve never utilised a men’s shed, but I’ve known people who have, and they seem like a really great idea.

The best way to learn is by doing and along the way you pick up tools and knowledge before you know it your saying "Yup I know how to do that".
