    Artist LP Kit Build.

So today on a bit of a whim i somehow managed to order an LP kit from Artist guitars.
Im not really familiar with there kits but decided to give one a crack anyway Ive been wanting to build an LP for a little while so i kinda jumped on it when i saw it.
If anyone has built one of there kits or has any experience with them id be interested to hear what you thought of it and how it went together.
Because it was a spur of the moment purchase i haven't really had time to think about finishes or upgrades yet so i need to find a little inspiration first before a i make any decisions.

Here is a pic of the kit and ill share some more pics once it arrives.
    Cheers
    Russ

Be interesting to see how close it is to a PB kit.

I saw a bunch of posts today on Reddit about the big 'G' going bankrupt. I hope that means they won't have the resources to pursue any legal action and the LP style get reinstated on the PB site.

Yes i heard something along those lines too. I missed out on a PB LP kit. So for obvious reasons had to look elsewhere.

Private equity or similar will no doubt step in and snap up the assets, then set about appointing new management, protecting the brand integrity etc. It might be a very brief litigation hiatus.

That kit looks cool, I've read somewhere that America is one of the most litigatious countries around, personally, I've never liked how some big companies, that supposedly make millions of dollars, try to gain a monopoly on some things, if Gibson are going bankrupt then maybe their chief CEO was definitely mis-managing it, maybe Gibson need to go through what Fender went through during it's CBS era, and then ending up in it's current owners.

Having a monopoly on something comes across as plain greed to me.

I think its fair enough that a company would want to protect its brand, particularly its flagship model.

The smart move would probably be to be reasonable with licensing certain aspects of it.

An LP copy will always be an LP copy to people who know what they are looking at. If they focused on a more consistent product themselves they wouldn't have anything to worry about.

This market isn't really about competing with the brand in question anyway. I know I can't come at any of the higher end models price wise. Let me have some fun building my own, you get a nod in licensing and fans get to celebrate your iconic product in a way that is achievable for them.

Looks very similar to discontinued line and probably comes from same or similar factories that produce these kits in China.

From having built a few PBG's and a couple of 'Others' I found hardware was similar (typical low end generic Chinese stuff) and only slight differences in the bodies through timber used or colour of binding in relation to my flame maple top Tele as PBG offering at that time was Quilt top & Black binding. Overall QC was close to PBG, maybe more glue spots and filler to contend with that forced upon me an early introduction with Goof Off.

    Cheers, Waz

From my two recent kits (not a huge sample I know), the factories have addressed the glue spot and veneer alignment issues - at least for now.
