    Hi Grubsta, looking good.

If mine, I would stick with the cream plastic bits that came with the kit as they are similar warm tones that should compliment stain colours and feel black may be too stark. Soaking in tea or coffee would darken them up a bit if that is what you prefer.

With DT stain running low best to make a start on the neck and if you run out maybe double up with extra intensifier coats. From memory it looks like a maple neck so that will probably need several more coats to dial in a similar colour to the body. Intensifier can add some colour, just not as much as the base stain.

    Cheers, Waz

I have enough base stain to maybe squeeze 2 neck coats if i'm lucky so ill see how it goes. Yes indeed it is a maple neck i was hoping to make a start on it tomorrow.
I need to finish shaping the head stock as well.

And we have glue lines bugger. They didn't show in the initial coats but now they stand out like a pimple on a nose.

    Gold pinstripes?

Or possibly pinstripes to match the binding?

I don't know how well it would work on the Dingotone (works OK with Tru-Oil), but I've been using coloured Sharpie pens to touch up the odd light spot on my ES-1/330 build. Find the nearest matching colour, draw on the finish and then smudge with a finger. Of course it will need some more clear over the top to protect it. I sometimes use two colours for a better match.

If it doesn't look right, a quick rub with turps or metho should remove the ink.

And I now always treat any wood or veneer join as a probably glue line, so it's always worth going over the joins with a glue remover and a brush before you do anything else.

Thanks for the advice Simon ill have a play around and see how i go. Lesson learned here. When I started staining the top there were no signs of glue at all I think i put a little too much faith in the joins.

So I needed to try and get inspired about the plastics that came with the kit. I decided to set some parts out and see how it might look. I was actually surprised by it. The colorless stain on the top has settled and its darkened quite a bit.

I think the cream and gold knobs work quite well. It's pretty standard on Lp guitars. Once it's all on it works well with the binding. Shame about the glue lines, some pinstripes is not a bad idea.
