Hi, there!
Just introducing myself as another new Melbourne-based member.
Primarily a bass-player, bought my first bass back in ‘81, an entry level 3/4 size SG copy (for $110 which as a 12y.o. I saved from paper rounds and lawn mowing for a bunch of people) from Helmuts in Ringwood (which became a Troy Music outlet and is now Five Star Music), but played guitars since ‘78, spending about 10 years struggling on a horrible little acoustic that was probably bought from Hans Music Spot by my well-meaning parents.
Whilst I’ve finally managed to get some much better instruments, I’ve spent a fair amount of time playing poor-to-fair quality instruments. I’ve also found that it’s entirely possible to sometimes get quite decent instruments for low prices, and many of them can be brought up to a very high quality level with a fair bit of character.
So, now I’m keen to start making quite a number of instruments from kits and see how good I can get them.
My first foray has been doing a course with Nick Carpenter from Wildwood Instruments who has now set himself up here in Daylesford, Victoria. I’ve made a pretty reasonable Telecaster on my course, and I’ve now got two kits on order here at PBG.
Looking forward to the journey and to learning from you all wherever you’re able to assist me.
Cheers!
