    Thats gorgeous bundy......

I would actually recommend getting some Dingotone butterscotch. Firstly, its translucent and will look nice on the grain. It comes with a white base bottle and the butterscotch stain bottle so you can mix more white with the butterscotch to get a translucent blonde.

    That's my best shot mate.

Am I correct in looking at the picture and assuming that the quilted area is just that section in the middle? The section to the right of the middle bit seems to have the same grain pattern but no quilt- or is that a trick of the light? The section on the left looks to have a very different grain pattern to the centre bit.

Is this why you want to do a burst, to cover up the plain sections but leave the central quilt section on show? If so, my feeling is that it's going to look quite odd, as the darker/solid colour burst round the edges is going to be very large if you don't want any joins showing.

If a burst wouldn't look good due to such a large area that would be solid.what else can i do with it.

You could make the most of what you've got. My suggestion would to be to stain the two outer sections a dark brown, with the centre section a light amber tint. Obviously you can pop the grain with a darker colour first. Is the maple a decent thickness cap (or even solid all the way through) or is it a veneer on the top of something else? You'd have to be a lot more careful if it's a veneer.

It is solid all the way thru.no veneer

I agree with Simon, I would highlight the different woods, that would make it look really unique. The central piece is nicely balanced so it would work well with a bit of patience. Stain the neck the same as the centre and I reckon it'd look great.

Just playing with Simon's idea - it's bit rough but it will hopefully give you ideas:

I'd go even darker on the edges to really pop the central quilt.

    A bit darker.

For me it is starting to look more classical than rock. Sort of like some Wal basses look.
