    Nano Diamond Thermal Compound

Just did some maintenance work on my studio PC, this involved using a can of Air Duster I bought from Jaycar electronics to blow out all the accumulated dust and fluff from the computer case, CPU cooler, and case exhaust ports, and putting some new thermal paste on the CPU before re-installing the CPU cooler, now, instead of using some silver heatsink compound that I normally use, I thought that I would try using some Nano Diamond Thermal Compound, also bought from Jaycar Electronics, so, why did I choose to use it rather than the Silver Heatsink compound?, apparently the Nano Diamond Compound is really good at transferring heat, which is essential for keeping your PC's CPU cool while the PC is operational, when the CPU overheats, you'll notice that at best, your computer will perform sluggishly, or at worse, it will have a tendency to crash at random times, so far my studio PC seems to be running pretty well....touchwood.

Here's a pic of the Nano diamond Thermal Compound I used:

Doc, they use diamond nanocoating as wear resistant and heat dissipating coatings on things like turbo compressor mechanical seals in the oil and gas industry (some get up to a couple hundred bar pressure) and for seal face coatings in minerals processing slurries (up to 60% solids, basically pumping rocks) it’s great technology.
    Should see your pc right!

That's alright, keep the one-liners and quips coming, it's all good.

My NBN Internet went down at about 5:00pm yesterday, been trying since then to get it working again, but had to resort to using my new Alcatel phone as a tethered wireless modem, I got in contact with my ISP, Aussie Broadband, who got in contact with NBN Co in Darwin, they are going to send a tech round to my new flat tomorrow to sort-out my NBN Internet service, I don't think it's a general outage in the Darwin CBD, I think it's a fault somewhere between the NBN Co box in my flat and the Fibre Optic node, I checked this morning to see if there was any obvious damage but can't see anything obvious, will have to wait till tomorrow.

As most of you probably know, Diamond is one of the hardest substances known to human-kind, it is basically a form of Carbon that has been subjected to a tremendous amount of heat and pressure deep beneath planet Earth's crust, there's a scale of hardness for substances called the Moh's Scale, which goes from 1 to 10, 1 being the softest and 10 being the hardness, Chalk and Talc rates about 1 on the Moh's Scale whereas Diamond rates at 10.

Diamond is so hard that it can easily scratch glass, the only thing that can cut Diamond is another Diamond, most of the Diamonds mined in Australia are usually industrial quality, I seem to remember a school excursion I went on out to the Argyle Diamond Mine, it was really interesting to see how they recovered the Diamonds from all the dirt that was dug up, I got to see a small industrial-quality Diamond "in the flesh" so to speak, it looked like a small pyramid-shaped piece of dark-grey glass.

There's also another Diamond Mine at Bow River, but I don't know if it is still operating, it probably is.
