Nice body colour
Nice body colour
Oh yeah - of course I love this!
Are you using rustoleum? If you give it a chance to get really hard it buffs up very nicely. I found it pretty splattery out of the can, but it worked well in the end. I think I need to change to a tortoise shell pick guard when I get around to upgrading this one.

Hah. Yes. Rustoleum Ocean Mist.
I knew it looked familiar when I put the pick guard in.. hah.
I’ll be adding a clear coat (also 2x rustoleum) if I ever get a coat on that is vaguely flat... *sigh*
That same clear has been brilliant on the neck and on my test piece of pine, soooo 🙏🤞🙏
Clear is a good idea. So long as there is a decent coat of colour on there you should be able to block it back nice and flat. I ended up not bothering with mine. The colour coats were pretty thick and the paint itself is a decent gloss, so cutting and polishing was enough to get a finish I was happy with.

I think I am beginning to get how to spray without getting runs.
I am really digging the ocean mist (even though I now know I accidentally stole the idea from Sonic, hah).
I have always loved surf green and sonic blue, et al, so I guess it's not terribly surprising.
I figure this coat might be my last colour one, so I am just gonna let it go as hard as I can before I clear coat it.
Next I guess it's time to tackle the electronics and my fear of soldering
Note: I know everyone here is very into taking their time and getting it as "right" as possible, but the way I look at it is this:
I don't know how this kit guitar is gonna turn out (sound and playability)... So the way I am approaching it is I am going to get "close enough" wrt the painting, etc... then finish building it. If it turns out that it plays nice and I like it as a guitar, I will probably get another kit and try and do it properly. However, I am not keen to spend a tonne of time on it to find out I am not super excited by it as an actual instrument. Hope that makes sense.
The other option is if you are happy with it as an instrument, you can always take it apart and refinish it.
That colour is building up well, I have a well known aversion to the dreaded SFG but it seems ubiquitous with the JMs. You look to have some nice thick coverage, so it should go well once you’ve cleared it. I watch on with great interest!
