Well I was, which is the reason for cutting it out altogether.
BTW Aldi wasn't always the cheapest. Coles sometimes sells an aptly titled 'Hammer n Tongs'.
An extended shift in a steel foundry was in order to get thirsty enough to drink the stuff.

nice thing about brass is that brazing only need a little gas torch. You could braze up a pretty crazy bridge/tail piece with gears and tentacles and other non functional apparatus.

Mid priced wine at Aldi is generally worth it. The cheap stuff is battery acid. But I've found that the $8 bottles at Aldi are usually the equivalent of a $12 bottle at Dan Murphys.

OK after lots of staring at it hoping it would work itself out i actually made some progress with the bridge today. Lots of measuring and mocking up in illustrator. I'm going to make it string through so that alleviates some of the tension on the bridge plate, I just have to worry about having somewhere to mount the saddle adjustment screws. So i'll cut two bits of plate the main plate with a slot in it and the smaller plate with a tang. Then once I've cut them out I will braze them together and hopefully I'll have my very own bridge design working. I'm going to order some brass saddles to go with.













So I'm feeling pretty good about that end of the guitar. Next challenge will be some suitable tuners...........Then I need to make a jack plate, neck plate, control cavity cover and truss rod cover and hopefully that'll be the end of the brass work!

Personally, I'd just bend the end of the plate up rather than braze a separate bit on. I'd also go for larger screws to hold the bridge plate in place, if only because most commercial bridges have large locating screws.

Bending 3mm thick plate nicely is more difficult than you might think, I’m not confident I can do it with the tools I have. Besides this lets me make it look cooler.

All the holes marked are pilot only. I’ll size them properly to the fasteners I end up using.

Actually looking again, I think the mounting holes could be move inboard a bit. You are right, the screw heads will be larger than I’ve allowed for.

Fine, I see your reasoning. Yes, I was thinking that you'd want screws with decent sized heads to spread the load.

Does making your own bridge lend itself to making the plate more shaped like a squid or octopus's body?
