Thread: Let's get this Diary Started TL-TH1A

    Starting the sanding.

    1st coat of Natural stain

After a few coats of Natural, I thought it was still too pale, so I applied a few coats of Danish Oil

Then a few coats of Walnut satin (Stain & Varnish)

Of course, sanding after each coat had dried.

Neck post I'll cover the neck and back of body stain.

nice start Jeff, no need to sand much between early coats. Build up thin layered coats and towards the end you will flatten the coats after a few clear coats
    Current Builds and status
scratch end grain pine tele - first clear coat on !
    JBA-4 - assembled - final tweaks
Telemonster double scale tele - finish tobacco burst on body and sand neck

    Completed builds
scratch oak.rose gum Jazzmaster - assembled needs setup
    MK-2 Mosrite - assembled - play in
Ash tele with Baritone neck - neck pup wiring tweaks and play in

With the help of some mates, Felix & John, I had the paddle roughly shaped then spent some time with the sandpaper getting the shape right.

    Getting the sanding right.

    1st coat of Danish oil

Thanks Wokka. I'll start asking questions soon. I'm flying blind so far.(well not entirely... I've benn watching youtube vids and reading build diaries here. Yours & wazza's have been extremely helpful.)

This is my first build, 1st attempt at woodwork, 1st attempt at staining timber. I still wanna attempt to get a decent finish.

no worries Jeff the headstock is looking good, bit of a mashup with a strat shape on a tele but all good.
What clear stain are you using Dingotone ?
keep building up thin coats with at least 3 days curing time between coats and you will have a nice darker natural look

I used Dingotone for the first 2 coats on the front side of the body, added a few coats of Danish oil, then a few coats of Walnut satin stain.
The neck I've done with about 5 coats of Danish oil. Fretboard, 2 coats Danish oil.

PS I've always like the Strat head on the Thinline Deluxe. I know this isn't (quite) a deluxe, but close!!!

Please note, this is about 2 weeks into the build. I've been collecting photos and have only just learned how to post them onto this site. Huge thanks to Sonic Mountain for that info.

I've done quite a bit of work on the back of the body and it's just starting to get glossy. I'm rapt! Will start posting tomorrow.
