    Hello from the Gold Coast

    Hey team,

Just a post to say hello. Been lurking for awhile, looking at grabbing a project for my 6 week university holiday. Getting a bit of a sense that a full kit build is something that requires a fair amount of time and patience to do properly so have decided not to get a kit just yet. Have just bought a Pitbull Guitars hardware pack for a dodgy old Strat I have lying around to see if I can turn it into a semi playable guitar and maybe learn a few things about setting up a guitar properly.

Looks like such a good little community here - looking forward to getting involved!

    James

Welcome James. I take it from your handle that you don't mind the odd bit of funk?

From memory Funky Junky is the title of a Charlie Daniels song that is quite energetic

Thanks Wokka, will do. Already looks like such a good spot to get expert advice. Looking at a J or P Bass kit when I take the plunge - mainly because I don’t have a bass so it will be easier to justify to the wife!

Andy - my band in highschool played a song called funkjunky. I used it as a username back then and it stuck as I don’t have the memory capacity to remember any others! I’m partial to a bit of funk but I’m more of a blues and roots guy these days.

Welcome along mate - I think there are a couple of banana benders on the forum - you're in good company. P / J basses are a great place to start - my first was a P Bass - I initially thought I'd miss the second pickup and additional controls - they're now my go to basses.

Thanks Brendan - I usually play a mates Made in Japan Jazz Bass. Seems to do the job but it’s so damn heavy. Figure a P Bass would do most of the same tricks with a bit less weight.

As a complete novice guitar builder with minimal tools/equipment, are the fender style kits generally a bit easier to put together?
