Sonics Semi-Scratch experiment - Flying Victory

Another thread that may be slow moving until I get some time to work on this.....

I've been chipping away at this idea for a while now. I wanted to make use of my design skills and experience using computer cutting. Initially I wanted to get a whole bunch different woods cut and sandwich them together, but the costs involved got a bit much for something I wasn't entirely sure would work. So instead of using a bunch of different woods, I'm starting out with an MDF fascia, which will also be the template for the construction of the rest of the body. I hereby christen it "Reverbanite (TM)" as its all in the marketing really.....

I was planning on getting the flower design engraved, but after a bit of discussion with the laser cutters I've elected to just mask it out for now. This way I could route it out with a dremel or more likely spray it to get the design on the front of the guitar.

I know MDF... I mean "Reverbanite (TM)" probably doesn't have much of a footprint as a construction material, but I think as a fascia it will be fine and I can use mahogany or something for the main body.

Anyway, I'm really excited with the results of the initial cut. The neck is a perfect fit, so now I just need to order some other hardware and see how close I got in the software. These were pretty cheap to get done $35 for the pair, with the masking design. So even if I've stuffed it up, its not a big deal to adjust the files and get some new ones cut.

EDIT: the green leaf is because I got too excited when weeding and pulled the wrong bit of mask up :/ fortunately there is a line in the material I can follow with a sharp blade to replace it with normal tape.

Yep, that's the plan. Can't wait to get stuck into it, but of course its the busiest time of the year in my normal work as well as with the family. So it'll probably be Christmas break before I get anything serious done on it. Lots of time for my orders to arrive

I also have to get the Telecaster done by mid January so that will eat a bit of time.

I'm sure "Reverbanite" will sound just the same as anything else. Just add some great pick ups!

I've had a bit of a mess around with this. My original design calls for the body to be white with a black flower. I've ordered black hard ware to suit this. So the way we did the mask didn't really work for that. I probably should have weeded it in reverse, but oh well.

So I will use the blank and paint it white and then get some vinyl cut for the design. I'll apply that before clear coats and it should work out well. In the mean time I figured I'd just play with the other one. You can't leave the appi tape on too long or the glue goes off and its a bastard to remove. So I gave it a quick squirt with black. There was a bit of bleeding into the Reverbanite, which I half expected. I then started working some wood stain I had into it. I actually don't mind it and I'll keep working away at it, but it's not the look I was planning.

I think If I knock it back a bit and stain again it will even out, then I'll see how it looks with some clear, just 'cause.

I really have to stop messing around with this and focus on the Telecaster though....

Starting to feel a bit like Christmas... another order from a while ago arrived today.

I saw these on Teamjeffos build and thought they looked awesome - so based purely on that I bought some.

Another slightly weird headstock treatment - It will work with the body shape, but looks a bit odd at the moment.

As much as I like the grovers, the don't really suit this head stock - I'm thinking of trying to change the actual peg 'heads' to somthing a bit more angular. I'm also toying with having them mounted on an angle - more to come.

I need to start seriously looking at some timber - my ideas with this keep evolving, but right now I think I want to get some maple to match the neck and do a kind of semi whitewashed finish something like this.

Yep, just the bolt on maple/ebony PBG neck. I think its going to come together pretty well, but its a bit of a slow burn at the moment.

Still need my bridge and tail piece, I think the black Gotoh's will do the trick.
