Have to agree with FW on the awesome Ash grain.

Wondering what colour scheme you have in mind?

    Thanks,

I'm not sure yet about colour, can rule out a black theme as i already have 3 black guitars
Will most likely do some experiments with some dies given to me by a floor sander, (ill post some pics).

    A question

I intend to do this project over summer
My shed is a typical aussie garage with a tin roof, bloody hot in summer and chilly at night.
I was wondering if the extreme temperature fluctuations is going to impact the integrity of timber at all.

    Cheers

Nice looking kit. I'm in the same situation with the shed, insulation is high on my list of priorities.

There is definitely a noticeable settling period while the kit acclimatises, you may notice the neck fit tightening or loosening. I think you will get away with it if you do the actual spraying during mild periods and give each coat plenty of time to dry properly. Mine seemed to come out fine and it was extremely hot for some of the time I was working on it.

The main problem with a hot shed if you are painting is the outer layer may dry quickly locking the solvent in below which then takes ages to dry properly. And if you spray when hot and it quickly becomes cold you may get some cracking as the wood will expand and shrink as will the paint. I think if you are using an oil based poly or similar it might put up with it a bit more than automotive spray, but I only have limited experience with those products.

nice looking kit Gribbit. Looks like you have guitar strings for a bass haha
be careful if leaving your body/neck to cure in a hot shed. My buddy left a neck in my hot shed (was about 5 years ago before I knew it would be too hot) and it ended up warping it too bad to use. You might want to look at ventilation or insulation so it doesn't get too hot. My shed probably got to 50+ degrees on hot summers days and it had little ventilation. I don't hang bodies or necks there anymore !

    Thanks Sonic & Wokka,

Yeh, I scratched my head when i saw the guitar strings, but they did also include set of bass strings.
Ill most likely put on a set of flat chromes, quite partial to those.

Just got mine as well, it also came with this black triangular truss rod cover. Kind of a disappointment. Please let me know if end up finding the dimensions, I'll do the same...
