I'm still favouring the Pink/Red for the Maple Waz. Not 100% sure that the Red I'll be using will come out a good deep colour, but I'll be happy with a Pink leaning towards red. Depending on how things develop I might even try to make a slight burst out of it. Will not truly know until I get started and will have to keep working it by applying and wiping off until a level of satisfaction sets in...

Fully intend to do a lot of coats of poly clear over the whole build and try for a hi gloss finish with all the Mahogany remaining its natural colour...

Good thing this is only the first colour hit, yet at the same time it's a bit of a shame... I think I have some fixing to do...

A few hours with the wire brush & Goof-off, a little more staining with a watered down (weak) U-Beaut Red, and then a couple of coats of rattle can clear poly and it's amazing the transformation.

The neck has only one coat of clear satin poly, but the headstock has two coats of clear gloss poly. Nil stain or filler, just natural Mahogany.

Yeah, I know, nil filler = many many many coats of rattle can poly...... but I think it will be worth it...

Next up is fit the neck, then more coats of poly...

Really nice colour combination, I love the look of this kit. What is the advantage of the semi hollow design? I have never played one.

Not sure Andyxlh... This is a Mahogany body and neck with a maple veneer so I'm suspecting it will have some very LP characteristics to the tone yet also have some ES ring due to the two quite large chambers behind the F holes. When I tap the body you can certainly hear that it is very hollow despite there being a solid block down the middle.

My only concern with this kit so far is the bridge. There doesn't seem to be much overall range for intonation adjustment, and with only two adjusting screws at each end of the bridge/tail piece there is nil adjustment between strings. I can only hope that it doesn't turn into a 'cat walk model' and I get the neck set in the ideal place so that decent intonation falls somewhere between the 5mm of adjustment that the bridge allows, and I won't know that until I get some strings on it... I've had thoughts of putting a standard LP style bridge and a trapeze tail piece as an alternative if the needed intonation adjustments push that way...

Cat walk model = Looks great but needs something for between the ears... (I'm talking good tone...lol)

Ok, so what kind of bridge do they have? I really like this one, I might add it to my to do list 😊

Yep, There are plenty of options Dedman, and many are quite expensive particularly if you want/need Gold one's. One lovely fully adjustable Gotoh bridge I saw on Ebay was AU$350, which is more than the kit is worth so I doubt the ministry for finance will agree on that one.

What comes with the kit is a Gold version of this... https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Silver-E....c100010.m2109

Plenty of cheaper chrome ones on Ebay. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Neewer-Wr...25.m3641.l6368

In the mean time I'll keep applying coats of clear...

Thanks to a few messages from Dedman I went and set my fears aside and spent some hard earned at Guitar fetish... One Gold Badass intonatable wraparound bridge on its way...US$23.00 + shipping.
