Sonics second build - The Major Mitchell Relliecaster

I'm going to start this diary now, but might be a little while before there is any decent progress.

This isn't actually a guitar I had planned to do, but I posted the Shoegazer on facebook and my nephew Mitchell was very impressed, so I decided to build him one as well as he has been learning guitar at school for the last year or so. Nothing better to encourage you than having your own custom instrument!

Like the JMA I'm not going to mod this one very much, probably just locking tuners. The plan is for a two tone finish, metallic blue on the front and white on the back. My workspace still isn't properly setup - there have been some big changes and sorting out going on around the place which has kept me from getting really stuck back into a build. It'll probably be another hang and spray job, unless I can get my spray booth sorted out.

After this one I have a couple of away more interesting semi scratch builds that I'm dying to share... once I have something worth taking pics of.

So I have the kit and I've given it a bit of a look over, but I really need to to a mock assembly and work out where I'm up to. This was the guinea pig I used to get all the measurements etc off for the offset tele design - so I know all the routes etc will be correct on that.

I now kinda want one of these for myself as well - the build list is starting to get a bit out of hand

    Build 1 - Shoegazer MK1 JMA-1
    Build 2 - The Relliecaster TL-1
Build 3 - The Black Cherry SG AG-1
    Build 4 - The Sonicaster TL-1ish
    Build 5 - The Steampunker Bass YB-4
    Build 6 - The Howling Gowing ST-1

Heh, probably. He chose the colour, the name is just a play on his. I might see if I can incorporate a bird motif in there somewhere....

When I saw "Major Mitchell" immediately thought Cockatoo and was intrigued to see what you were going to do.

Well he is a ranga, so that fits. I very much doubt he'd like it painted orange/pink, he was pretty set on blue....but I think I have an idea on how to incorporate it. Hopefully the guitar will squawk!

I take it this is a fairly normal gap between the bridge and pick guard on these? The pickup is right up against the cavity rout.

There is a lot of adjustment in the bridge for intonation. Is there any reason I shouldn't enlarge the cavity slightly so I can move the bridge forward 5 mm or so?
