Push pull wiring on PBG thunderbird 4.

    I have a TB 4 kit.

I bought two push pull pots and I would like to use them to split the coils in the Chinese humbuckers that come with the kit.

I would like to just replace the two volume pots and not have to drill and fit a three position switch.

If anybody has or knows where I can find a detailed wiring diagram I would be very grateful.

    Thank you in anticipation. 😎

Kit comes with 3 controls being 2 x volume & 1 x tone. Easiest way is to go master volume, 3 way switch, master tone.

If you want to keep 2 volumes you can use the lugs under each pot to split coils of that pickup.

Essentially, you can start by just wiring it as per normal (basic layout like this). With the volume push/pulls orientated with the lugs facing down: output left lug, pickup middle lug, ground right lug (run a ground wire from the lug to the tab on the top of the push/pull).

For the coil split component you just have to connect the series link of the pickup (the two wires linked together, usually white and red) to the left or right middle lug on the push/pull switch and then a ground wire to the lug below it (closest to the pot). The connections will look something like this but with the ground ground going to the top tab on the switch (first image I could find):

(your pickups probably have black as hot and green as ground, it's just to show where the switch connections go)

The switch body is connected to the pot body so you can just ground all your connections to the tab at the top edge of the switch, if you get what I mean.

Now this looks good. Always rely on the weird one. Thank you Scott. I shall give it a go. 😎
