    First Time Build TLA-1F

    Hi everyone,

My name's Tom and I've just received my first guitar kit to start building.
It's a TLA-1F, so an ash body with a flame maple veneer.

I've never done anything like this before and I'm a complete novice on nearly all things construction (I work in an office all day) so I'm probably going to need quite a few pointers.

    Sorry for any future ignorance!

Welcome Tom. Nice kit and an easy one to start on for your new addiction as this kit building is like Pringles, you can't stop at one.

    Next Step

So the kit itself seems pretty good in terms of any nicks or dints. I'm not sure what everyone means by machine marks but I can't really see any unsightly marks anywhere.

I've started sanding the body so that it's smooth to touch without any fuzzy feel. I'm looking at a solid colour paint finish but unsure what paint to get at this stage, I've looked at White Knight Squirts from Bunnings which is an acrylic enamel and comes in a gloss finish, it also comes as an undercoat and a clear sealer. So it seems like a good idea to go this way as I know all products will cooperate with each other.

I've read that because it's an ash body then I'll need to get a filler or something? Can anyone enlighten me on this at all, or any product preferences they have? Thanks !

Ash is usually full of highly figured grain and a shame to hide under solid colour plus that grain also can show contour lines under solid finish too.

Best to use Timber Mate as a filler plus good primer coats.
