Masking off pickup cavities

Getting ready to hit my JK-1 with the primer this weekend. I know that I have to mask off the neck pocket or risk messing up the way the neck fits. But is there a compelling reason not to paint the pickup and control cavities? I've seen it done both ways, but just wondering if there's any advantage.

I've never masked the cavities, I figure any over spray helps seal the body against moisture/humidity.Unless its a glue in neck I dont go out of my way to keep a bit of over spray landing there either. ( full thickness coats will interfere with fit however)

I agree with Dedman. All the factory guitars that I've pulled apart have some overspray in the cavities and neck pocket, I don't think its a major problem.

Most probably just a waste of finish inside PUP cavities and more likely left unfinished as a cost cutting exercise. Have seen the odd Strat copy where under scratch plate it did have full top coat lacquer too.
