Coming from USA they might not look cheap and there is another similar product on ebay that doesn't cost as much. Worth checking out as traditional string retainers do nothing for A string which needs at least 2 wraps around the post to lower break angle and keep it seated in nut slot.

Managed to start a template to cut the pickguard.
I used the pickguard that came with the kit to trace the outside, cut with the jigsaw and finished with files.
I've put in position and used some string to see where the strings will run. I used that to mark the p and j pups positions. I won't cut these tonight, i'll sleep on it and remeasure before I start cutring...

I had to move the jack to the side of the guitar to make room for the 4th pot on the control plate. I got a 22mm drill bit and tried to keep it all lined up. Job done, pretty happy I didn't tear the whole side of the guitar!
That should be the last of the body modifications. Next step, staining!

good job Fred. I made the mistake of drilling the jack hole on mine a bit too close to the control cavity and the jack tip almost touches the 4th pot. You got heaps more clearance. Haven't seen this thread for a while love the middle P style pup mod !!

The weathered look is quite subtle but visible enough to notice. Nice touch and it looks great.

    Cheers guys.

The plan is to stain with black first, then sand the top, and then apply Black Japan stain.
That should keep the deeper grooves darker than the top.
Anyway, that's the plan, we'll see...

Swapped the marker dots. Drilled out the black plastic which were surprisingly thick.
So I filled the holes with timbermate, let it dry for a few days and redrilled them by hand to be close to 1.4mm depth as the argentium dots are 1mm thick.
The fingerboard suffered a little bit near one of the dots but that should be okay.
I put a drop of superglue in each hole and bashed the dots in place. Pretty happy with the result so far.
Sanded a couple and they get quite shiny. I'll try and sand them tomorrow to see what I can achieve.
