Is there anything more boring than watching paint dry?

I patched my goof, made another very small one which I can buff out. Just need to wait for it to get nice and hard. Its still very hot and dry here at the moment, which will help. Still, feels like an eternity until Saturday when I plan to cut the body back and polish.

Just caught up on this build and can relate to some of your setbacks as we all seem to experience one every now and then.

Love the colour. Surprised you couldn't find a flat bottomed nut to fit as most of the kit necks seem to be about 41mm - 42mm wide and there are a number of pre-slotted flat bottomed Fender style nuts available on eBay, All Parts, or better still, a bone one from PBG cut by DB himself which is what I bought for my last Tele build. Not cheap but worth every cent.

Hey Waz, yeah its weird. Its not even the flat bottom part that is the problem really. The slot in the neck that it sits in is just too deep for any of the strat style nuts I looked at, and I've tried heaps of them now. Looking forward to assembly so I can nut out the problem.....

    Hi Sonic, that is weird.

Some of the online ones I have bought in the past did arrive a bit short in height and others sat too high. Luck of the draw I suppose. Cutting a blank may be the only way to go unless you opt for one made by DB. I have 2 x guitar & 2 x Bass ones and at around $30 bucks each understand why cheaper ones may look more appealing. I highly recommend DB's. On my EX-5 went for a 'Just-a-nut' graphite looking thing made by Warwick Basses and that was around $35 - $40 from memory. Collection of spare nuts were accumulated when building my blue flame top Tele and ended up with a brass one off eBay that wasn't cheap either.

Long story short is that you can sometimes spend more time and money looking for a cheaper item where the better quality and slightly dearer one is where you will probably end up anyways.

Yeah I appreciate that and I'll probably just make my own next time. Didn't really consider these a cheap option, they were around $23 each, although I have since found the same ones a bit cheaper. I just really wanted pre-slotted, not plastic and similar feel to the one on my Hagstrom.

Well I'm impatient, what can I say.

I had a bit of a muck around with the guitar this afternoon. It's dry to handle, but its not really hard enough to buff properly. Testing in a spot I know will be covered by the pick guard, my finger nail leaves a dent in the finish, I also gave it a very gentle knock back with 2000 and the paint was balling so I backed off. Otherwise, I very carefully and gently pushed my bridge post receivers in, I had a very small bit of damage to the top coat, but it will be hidden by the bridge so I got away with that.

I've never had a guitar with a bridge like this, I assume this is correct? The tension from the trem springs on the claw holds it down and the posts locate it?

Another mock up, I wish I hadn't as the copper shielding on the pick guard also marked the paint a little - It'll be hidden but still. Patience is a virtue.

I mentioned in another thread I ended up using Rustoleum over SCA primer. It's worked OK, but I think I'll stick to straight automotive stuff and use my gun in the future. I am really happy with the colour.

Anyone who knows me knows I'm a bit of a sucker for stickers on a guitar. I know a lot of people hate it, but each to their own eh? There is a sneak peak of the decal I've got to christen this one

Hey Sonic, where do you get your decals from? I too think decals look great and I want to get some personalised ones.

All over the place, if I see one I like I buy it.

I also work as a graphic designer for a sign company. So customs are easy. I do work 4000kms away from the factory these days, so sneaking stuff through is harder, but I can definitely help out with some design. There are loads of different online places that can produce them for you.
