Thread: Build #2 Non PitBull Rebuild - Vintage Brand Strat Copy

  1. #41
Basically finished, still have to decide on the headstock decals and do the set up. Can tell you one thing. Don't think I'm ever going to paint a guitar again. What a royal pain in the arse that is. After polishing through for the 47th time, decided to leave it and say I was going for a slighlty aged look, not full on reliced, just the start of the process. Thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it. Was going to paint the tele I'm starting blue, but ordered some colourtone stain instead.

    Rundown:
A freebe Strat copy now with,

    Graphite nut
    Tonerider classic blues pickups
    Allparts scratch and backplate
New pots and orange drop cap
Allparts 5 way switch, with additional on-off switch to allow for 7 way switching.
Fender aged white pup covers and knobs.
    Wilkinson bridge

I really like the way its turned out. Any guitar you play is going to end up looking a bit worn before you know it so, while I understand the desire for perfection, being pragmatic about it and enjoying the guitar is better than beating yourself up over the finish.

No beating up happening here, I'm pretty happy with it as well, once I let go.... :-)

Know what you mean about solid colours hence why all of mine have been stained or natural finish, as that is hard enough to get looking right.
