Build #2 Non PitBull Rebuild - Vintage Brand Strat Copy

So not sure if this is actually number 2 or number 3. Original Number 2 is on order, but this fell into my hands on Tuesday.

From what i can gather they were pretty decent guitars, and the wilkinson picks get a pretty decent wrap for what they are.

Plans are failry straight forward at the moment. The example I have is pretty scratched up, so its a fresh coat of paint, possibly new electronics and probably tunners. The trem is broken so that needs to go as well.

Right now its going to be cream, but who knows that may change.

Was a score from the Daughters boyfriend. That, a little peavey rage 158 amp and a waawaa peddle. He's heading to the UK to take up a paramedic job. Think he's trying to placate me, with dragging my daughter half way round the world and all.

Another one? One of my mates has just completed his first year in a similar role with London Ambulance. Seems to be an awful lot of Aussie Ambos in the UK!

Yes, think most of his graduating class are heading in that direction. Think NSW only picked up 2 out of a class of 30 odd.

Those Vintage V6 Strats are still being made, and they certainly are decent guitars for the money. However the more basic ones do normally have cheaper ceramic pickups, rather than the Alnico ones Wilkinson sell for after-market fitting. Trev Wilkinson said to a friend of mine at a guitar show that the electrics were the worst bit of the Vintage guitars, as they couldn't afford to use imported pots and switches and the local Chinese made stuff wasn't very good. So an upgrade to the pots, switches and pickups is recommended.

Another friend has one of the two prototype John Frusciante Strat models that Vintage made but never brought into production (it was turning out to be too expensive to build at the price-point they wanted), which he bought from the Vintage stand at a guitar show. That is a stunning sounding guitar.

Well that's it broken down, bit faster than putting one together. Now to the sanding,, joy.

When you're doing a respray, do you need to take it all the way back to wood?

If spraying a solid colour probably not unless you are concerned that refinishing product is not compatible with what is already on there. You never know, there could either be a pleasant or very unpleasant surprise if you fully strip it back. Fred's plywood Strat that he refinished is a stunner.
