JB-5MF Fretless Bass. Sanding the fretboard.

What extra care and attention, if any, should I give to the fretboard on a fretless bass?

Hey RDB, I apply about 2 coats of thin super glue to the fingerboard then let it cure for at least 24 hours per coat. Get a 12" radius sanding block and sand it nice and smooth. Make sure you get flatwound strings for it
    Current Builds and status
scratch end grain pine tele - first clear coat on !
    JBA-4 - assembled - final tweaks
Telemonster double scale tele - finish tobacco burst on body and sand neck

    Completed builds
scratch oak.rose gum Jazzmaster - assembled needs setup
    MK-2 Mosrite - assembled - play in
Ash tele with Baritone neck - neck pup wiring tweaks and play in

Hi RDB, I presume the 'M' means Maple fret board therefore easier to look after than a fretless rosewood one as it is a much harder and denser timber.

As Woks mentioned you could do the CA glue coating which is rather fidly, traditional Fender style lacquer all over, or maybe even DT Wax or lemon oil. Having done the super glue on rosewood job it is one job I will never do again. So hard to get right and the toxic fumes almost made me pass out. I reckon DT Wax might be best as the board may show signs of wear on a highly polished lacquered surface, no matter what type of strings are used.

    Cheers, Waz
