ok so i have a couple of questions.
with the body as i am spray painting it how much sanding do i do before i spray the undercoat/primer. i know once i spray the guitar the grain lifts and i have to sand again anway just wasn't sure if i do the undercoat then sand until smooth?
second question, this neck is a more bare wood than the flying v. i will be spraying clear coat on the back. do i need to do anything for the face?
Newbie and Lovin building my guitar. Looking forward to the next build.

I generally do a first coat of primer, sand most of it back off so basically the first coat is grain filling. Do another coat sand till smooth, you will probably go through to bare timber again on the edges. Next coat, just do the edges, let it dry, then do a full coat. Light sand, then colour coats.
On the neck do the same as the body but all with clear.

thanks again dedman ill do that. just the back of the neck for the clear coat correct? this is more uncoated wood on the face side.

i wanted to do a similar but original shape for the head of the neck.

I've learned to draw , come back and look in a few days time before cutting. It's very much in the eye of the beholder and the over all style you are going for. Personally I'd move the tip (can we call it a nipple? ) to be more to the left(centralised).

Make a cardboard blank of the uncut headstock. Overlay baking paper and draw the head stock you are thinking of against that template. DO the same thing with separate sheets of baking paper/tracing paper, then take these back to your actual headstock and over lay them one at a time to see how they might look. when you've got a couple you're okay with, cut them to actual shape and then lay the shapes on the headstock and see what you think.

I will say with your pictured shape, that curl on the end may be susceptible to fracture if the stock gets a hard knock. The pointy part may also be prone to snagging on things. +1 on the coming back to things after thinking about it as per Dedman.

thanks again guys. before i got the kit i was drawing up different shape heads. this was my favourite one. i like the idea that you mentioned dedman on moving the point up to the middle. i will save the idea for my next build maybe a telecaster ill do that.
i decided to cut it out. i might round off the edges a bit on the point as i like the shape but maybe help it not get caught.

    great advice Dedman and Franky

EDIT its been cut. That point may break off if the guitar ever falls over or is dropped but just be careful and that shouldn't happen !

Interesting shape. Looks like a bird on a pond upside down, where tuner peg holes are the waterline.

Interesting shape. I see the bird and I'm looking forward how the complete guitar will look with this shape.
