Now a question... the neck seems to have a gap when slotted in, quite a tight fit though, is this how it should be?

Mate that spalt looks like a face! How cool is that? Good score!

Edit: oh and @Adam, feel free to send me double next time I order a kit!

It should sit right back in that pocket. Just check if the screw holes all line up, then check the nut to the middle of 12 fret distance and 12 fret-bridge saddles, they should be about the same. If the 12-Bridge is significantly longer then you might need to get that neck sitting back further.

It might just be a case of it binding on the corner radii, or something similar in the bac of the pocket, so just check for rough spots or rubs in the back of it before you do any serious worrying.

Unless theres a preponderance of specialized pots out there that I dont know about, it doesnt matter which pot goes where, just what you wire to them.

"Generally" with pots (I know of people who have different ideas on this) is the B curve pots as pictured above (B500K) are a linear pot and usually go in the tone control circuit. A curve pots (eg A500K) are audio taper (log taper) and go in the volume spot, as our ears hear volume changes in a roughly logarithmic manner.

If you were to wire them the other way around, it would work ok, but the volume probably would not appear to roll on and off smoothly and your tone controls would probably appear to be only effective towards one end of the scale. Some people like this and wire this way.

If you're not sure if it's a linear or audio pot, measure the two outside pins for resistance, put the pot about half way around and measure resistance to either end. If it's roughly half, it's linear, if it's a long way from half, it's an audio taper. Measure from the middle pin to one end, then the other to be sure.

    Hope this helps, Robbo
