Laney have never been as popular as Marshall, but they have made and continue to make some very nice amps. I must admit I'd never fancied even trying one myself as the local music stores tended to only stock their cheap transistor amps. But I've more recently tried Laney Lionheart and Ironheart amps, and they are very nice indeed.
I didn't realise that HH had resurfaced. Never heard of their PA kit - which I find odd. They certainly had disappeared for a long while. My mate Ivan used to run an outfit that sub-contracted the construction of quite a few of the HH amps.
I dimly recall that the HH speakers were re-badged Fane units (though I could be wrong) and it's probable that they re-badged Celestions as well at times. But they were certainly at the low end of the scale and generally got a bad press and a quick upgrade was often recommended. I'll try and find out.
Most of the speaker cones in UK-built speakers were (and still are) provided by a company called Dr Kurt Müller, based in High Wycombe (about 20 miles from me) to the speaker company's requirements.
