    Hello from Germany

    Hello everyone,

    My Name is Stefan.
Yesterday arrived my first DIY Guitar. It is a Explorer 7String and I hope, I am able to build a playable guitar.
I am a Little confused about the scale, on the website it's 25,5". But from nut to 12th fret it is 314mm, so I think, the scale is 24,7"...

I will click through this Forum to find an answer.

    See you!

Hi Stefan and welcome to the forum.

I've looked on the PBG website and the only 7-string Explorer kit I can find is this one: EXA-7 kit.

That states a 24.75" scale, which is the recognised Gibson scale length, and being based on a Gibson guitar, is what I would have expected.

The pre-built EXG-7A guitars do state a 25.5" scale length on the PBG site, but I do find that strange and will ask Adam to check if that is correct or whether it should be 24.75".

So your kit has the correct scale length for a Gibson and the kit description.

I hope you have fun building your guitar and don't forget to start a build diary. It's the best way to get help and hopefully prevent mistakes from occurring before it's too late.

To post pictures directly on the web site. you'll need to reduce the size so that the longest side is no bigger 1500 pixels and the overall file size is less than 1MB.

Hi Stephan, I believe we sorted this out on email yesterday.

For some reason the Finished 7 String EX kits are actually 25.5, but the EX 7 Kit are 24.75", standard Gibson scale length.
    Cheers,

    Adam

Hi Stefan, welcome to the forum. Greetings from another Explorer builder and wish you luck with the build. Glad that Simon was able to clarify the confusion over scale length. It was a bit weird that the store sells finished ones with 25.5" scale as that is typically what you would expect on a F style guitar.

It's probably a better scale length for a 7-string, especially if you plan to drop-tune the B string or lower the whole tuning of the guitar by a semitone or two.

Sounds like heavier gauge strings would be needed too perhaps?
