    Slow gear clone...

Any of you bods built one of these? I've never even heard one but I quite like the idea of pick attack actuated volume swells...

There's a kit I've seen around somewhere - can't remember where or who presently - but I'm quite keen to have a crack at one, eh!

I built one out of Electronics Australia a long long time ago, it was interesting it did what it was supposed to and when it was in bypass mode it had a very smooth and creamy overdrive.

I posted a link to the circuit and kit in another thread, I'll check back later and put the link up again if you can't find it.

DIY Stompboxes or something like that was the search I used

Just finishing up one of these at the moment. I got my PCB from a project on OSHpark.com I think.

Wow! Thanks chaps!! That Lazy Sprocket looks like my sort of thing; not too sure I'm capable of doing this from scratch!! Sadly, the Lazy Sprocket is OOS presently...

So, the bypass isn't a true bypass if it gives an overdrive when not engaged??

Not quite, the pedal I built what is now around 45 years ago was neither the Slow Gear or Lazy Sprocket, back then there was very little available in the way of off the shelf effects, a couple of reasonable fuzz boxes, a couple of wah pedals and a few to tape echoes and that was it.

The attack delay unit (ADU) used a single FET that rather bizarrely didn't care if it was wired back to front or correctly but the result was different and neither offensive or overly aggressive.

There was unlikely to be a mug builder error as I had previously mapped out an AC30 and built a very acceptable clone.

If you look at the 2nd link with the circuit diagram and list of materials I doubt that there's anything like $150 in components so have a crack at it, I'm no longer interested as I am using an Orchestral Strings VST to get the violin effects I want or a volume pedal if I must play the part

Thanks for that, Dave; and yes; I can remember when the shelves at the local music emporium weren't groaning with the weight of the gear for sale!! If you wanted anything even vaguely exotic in Dunedin, NZ in the mid-70s, it was Boss or nothing, hence all of my stompers are Boss!!

I've used a volume pedal in my gig rig for years but have always found using a wah or volume pedal well whilst playing your heart out a little like patting your head and rubbing your tummy - not terriffically easy!!
