no worries Pabs, so the bearing is the width of the binding smaller than the cutting bit ? Cool method. Looks like you sanded the edge of the body before you routed the binding channel or the channel wouldn't be consistent and even offset !

Nice work there. Just looking at the photos I thought you'd added a veneer top to the body as the edge of the wood looks so different when it's been routed. Had to read the text!
Binding.... a tale of mixed success.
Spent the afternoon slowly heating and bending the binding strip in to shape. Everything was going well. Got the first three quarters done with no problems, then I probably got a bit eager and tried to bend around the top horn without heating enough. Snap.
Oh well, learning experience, we move on to the second piece. This started off in the same manner as the first time, half way around, all good. Until I somehow caught the loose end on something and it snapped again. I did not have have a third piece.
There were some harsh words had between myself and some inanimate objects. A few deep breaths and a cold drink later, I remembered some advice from sensei DB.
Chopped up some binding and covered it in acetone to break it down. This creates a filler.
So, faced with a join, I figured the best place for it was as close as I could get to the centre line.
Cracking on.
'As long as there's, you know, sex and drugs, I can do without the rock and roll.'
Fingers crossed.
Done.
Tons of scraping later.
'As long as there's, you know, sex and drugs, I can do without the rock and roll.'
All character-building stuff. Looking great.
After a bit of cleaning up, the join is visible if you look for it, but I'm fine with it.
Just hoping it doesn't show more after staining.
Very pleased with the result.

nice work indeed!

Looks fine to me. You might find that a bit of white paint will help hide the join.
