    G'day from Melbourne

    G'day folks.
    A brief history.
I got my first guitar at age 12. It was a 'Tempo' branded SG copy.
By the time I reached 16 (around '76) it was clear that there was too many guitar heroes to compete with.
I was a mad Allman Bros. fan and after a few spins of Duane Allmans Anthology album I was picking up vibes from
    King Curtis.
Decided to switch from guitar to saxophone.

Recently was turned back towards the dark side whilst researching a bass for my daughter.

Got an elcheapo Squier Telecaster off the Gumtree to get my fingers re-aquainted with callouses.
Acquired a 'Venom' strat copy in woeful condition (the rattling was fragments of the cast iron tremelo system).
Managed to get it into reasonable playing shape but along the way realised that the neck was a tad wider than the Squier.

I've replaced it with a PitBull guitar TL neck and it is all systems go.

Nice stuff happening with the DIY building community here.

    cheers, Mark.

Hi Mark welcome to the forum, would love to see some pics of the 2 axes. Have you got plans to build a kit ? There are over 100 kits to choose from. It's great fun and a joy to play a guitar/bass that you have built. There is plenty of help here to guide you through the build process.
    Current Builds and status
scratch end grain pine tele - first clear coat on !
    JBA-4 - assembled - final tweaks
Telemonster double scale tele - finish tobacco burst on body and sand neck

    Completed builds
scratch oak.rose gum Jazzmaster - assembled needs setup
    MK-2 Mosrite - assembled - play in
Ash tele with Baritone neck - neck pup wiring tweaks and play in

    Thanks for the welcome wokkaboy.
I'll have to upload a shot when the sun comes out again.
Seeing all the excellent examples of workmanship is very tempting.
Would have to shift a few saxes to make room for any axes though.

    cheers, Mark.

My Daughter plays bass also so we recently sprang for a actual Fender P-Bass to share (Mexican made but great quality and sound) so I'm mulling over a bass kit soon.

Hi Gorath. She has played the trombone at primary school and is now in her first year at high school.
The music programmers offered the 3rd term students a second instrument to learn.
She decided it was the bass guitar.
I was checking out the Gumtree and ebay for a while monitoring the second hand bass market.
The best thing was to take her to the Bass Centre and see if I can get her idea what she wanted.
Tried out several basses and she opted for a Mustang bass. Due to it's shorter scale.
Unfortunately the budget couldn't afford that, and we ended up getting a Squier Bronco.
Apparently these things are so cheap in the U.S. that folks are buying them up for heavy modding.
Haven't seen any PitBull short scale basses yet.

    cheers, Mark.

The HB-4, HB-4S and SGB-34 are all 30" scale bass kits. And, welcome the forum.
    Scott.

Hi Fretworn and WeirdBits I should choose my words carefully. I should have said 'Fender' style short scale.

    cheers, Mark.

P.S. I did own a Hofner 'Beatle' bass once upon a time. Still remember the 'thud thud thud' vibe that it produced.
