I have just purchased a piece of "Queensland Mahogany" for a very cheaply to build a largeish table and there will be enough left for a solid body guitar. (Talk about biting off more than one can chew). Lovely dark mahogany colour and mahogany weight.
So I did some research on the web and found it is really Eucalyptus resinfera - Queensland/Red Mahogany
Real mahogany is not a eucalyptus and there are many many types of mahogany and many many types of "mahogany" that are not mahogany.
I am not a botanist and this is all news to me. Good old web.
I found another point of interest - China imports all its timber. Does not cut it's own mahogany forests.
So this long winded into leads to the interesting question:
What kind of mahogany do we get in our Pit Bull guitars?
I would be interested to know.
If you are interested in this you may like to read the three part article below:

PS
I have also read that it appears that as far as using Queensland mahogany for a guitar it will make a good wharf.
Well it looks good so I will let you know.
