Hey Fretty, yes - the irony is very intentional :P !!

Thanks Wokks, we'll see how it goes. At the moment I'm trying to think of ways to do the black dye and have it not seep under the masking. It always works with spray paint, but dye might be a whole other issue.

    cheers,
    Gav.

    Hey guys,

I took Hobastard's advice and lowered my initial flames a cm or two. I think they look a whole lot better. I think I'll do a final version very similar to this and run with it.

I love the idea of natural flames.

You could maybe try reversing the mask/frisket to the non-flame part and put a couple of coats of clear on the natural flames first to, at least partially, seal it agaist the stain?

Then again, a touch of very faint trans-black stain bleed at the edge of your flames could give them a nice soft edge. I think some testing will be in order.

Ahh yes Wierdy, testing! I better get on that. I want to go TO on this build not spray clear. If i paint a few coats of TO in the flame part before staining maybe it will seal enough. Yes - testing is the answer .

    cheers,
    Gav.
