Kawasaki Music PRO Series electric guitar

    Hey everyone,

I'm doing up this blue junior small person sized guitar(Kawasaki Music PRO Series) for my mates son. There's no model or serial number on it. You can easily see it on the first results of an internet search.

It has one tuning key missing on it and I'm having trouble trying to find just one for a dollar or two. Any ideas or should I just buy a new set?

I really would like to try and keep the original parts because it does work.

    Cheers,

    Alkay.

Photos or a link may help as I could not find anything via a google search.

Sight unseen I tend to think a replacement set will be required. I do have a set of the really cheap low end units that were destined for the dump that came off a Les Paul and yours if you want them.

    Cheers, Waz

    Hi Waz,

Had a bit of trouble trying to take the photo but here it is:

    Here's a google pic too: https://www.google.com.au/search?q=K...tKcUht6U-fLHM:

I was thinking of sanding it back but I won't now. Just do up the hardware, eg. The volume pot needs to be replaced or possibly rewire the whole thing and it probably won't crackle as much. The wiring is quite frayed. As it is well it works.

Thanks for the offer on them....this is in a straight line for the tuning pegs on a flat piece of metal(hope that makes sense). Thank you for the offer, PM me if you like.

    Cheers,

    Alkay.

Hi Alkay, that looks like an acoustic guitar type setup?

I know it will leave screw holes on the back of headstock but the best thing would be to chuck that piece and refit with some individual 6 inline tuners.

Yes, once that type of tuner peg is broken, it's really not worth trying to mend it (unless it is from some high value vintage Martin or similar). You may get another 6-in-line strip like that, but you'd need to make sure the centres of the tuning pegs line up exactly. Small individual tuners for Strat and Teles will fit, but get the more modern styles that are individually fixed in place (as opposed to vintage slot-headed Kluson types).

From the ruler, the spacing between centres looks to be around 25mm, so they may even be using an imperial 1" spacing. I measured my Strat with traditional Kluson tuners at 23mm between centres, so I'd avoid the Kluson types as the hole spacing will mean the tuners will be too far apart to use the common single fixing screw (I know this because I bought an eBay Tele neck with wider hole centres than vintage spec and I had to fix/bodge the Kluson-style tuners I bought for it with some very fat headed short screws - looks awful but they're on the back so are rarely seen).

    Thanks everyone,

I think I know what to do but I'll recheck this thanks Simon. I did try and PM you and say thanks for the parts Waz but the PM looks all jambled up.

I'll get to this one very soon, still on the polishing stages of the other two so photo's soon. I need to clear the bench for soldering so I'll do them all in one go.

    Cheers,

    Alkay.

Cheers I'll be away over the weekend but maybe back mid week and I'll rip into it.

Was kind of thinking seeing the guitar I might strip it right back and sand it all. Some peoples have scratched out their name etc on the back. I'll show a photo soon.

    Cheers,

    Alkay

    Hey Waz,

I installed the tuning keys you sent and it looks really nice. Thank you so much. I followed your advice and it worked out quite well. The keys are well seated after drilling bigger holes in the headstock. I had to go up to approximately 11 mm diameter but looks good. Very shiny those tuning keys.

The wires in the control cavity were a mess and weren't even tinned with solder. They were just wound on so I tried tinning the wires and putting it back together but no luck(with existing hardware). Just plugged it in and no noise at all through my amps.

You sent me some potentiometers and a capaticiter both A and B's and I understand the difference between the two; however as you have seen on this build it's only got one single coil so I'm not sure how to rewire it so it works?

The only hardware I have installed is the tuning keys so I'm happy to strip it all back and start again.

It's single coil PUP with one tone knob that is a B pot. So probably tone.

Anyway cheers for your help so far, I met a really nice woman and went to QLD with her and she's just started playing bass.... which is awesome. I have been seeing her a bit so haven't done too much on the guitars lately. Anyway I hope to hear your thoughts on this build.

    Cheers,

    Alkay.

Hi mate, good to hear you had a trip up to God's own country with a lovely lady friend. No doubt you will be cheering for the maroons tomorrow night?

Looking at the photo of this axe it looks like a volume only job and either pot will do but would suggest trying the 'A' one first as that has a gentler roll off than a 'B'.

Suggest having a look at wiring diagrams for a LP Jnr as they only have one single coil PUP and you could ignore the tone control perhaps...refer below link where you would ignore the tone pot and just run the earths off the back of the Vol pot. You could also experiment with running a capacitor like on the tone pot on the vol pot instead to see what that does. If you don't like it you could always snip it off.

    Cheers, Waz
