A guy on our car club forum has just done some electrolytic etching I'll copy it across tomorrow when I'm on the PC
Well after unsuccessfully searching the interwebs for a bridge with an antique copper finish I thought I might try to make the finish myself. First attempt involved a black volume knob some copper pipe and copper sulfate solution. No electricity yet
After 24 hours results were encouraging but the copper coating came off easily leaving a heavily pitted surface. Then I found exactly what I was looking for on eBay...... Oh well.....
First of all, though, I need a Tortoiseshell pickguard. Hard to know which one will fit, some are US Spec, I assume they won't..
Can't see any on PBG site....
I don't really want to be drilling holes in my new JB5 if I don't have to.... Haven't managed to find an undrilled one in my favourite shop (eBay) yet....
Any assistance greatly appreciated....

Being a fiver means eBay or maybe Real Parts who have just 4 stringers but this link shows some of the 'Blanks' that are available if you feel up to the challenge of cutting one yourself..... http://www.realparts.com.au/pickguar...heets.html?p=1

Schaller do some nice worn copper bass bridges and machine heads. They aren't cheap but they do look pretty and very steampunk.

Schaller are way above the price range, but I have found some Wilkinson machine heads and a decent "Budget Bridge", just not this month's budget. Also found knobs but not a JB Control plate in Copper.
Still really haven't decided completely what I want this Instrument to look like. I did order an eBay pickguard in Tortoiseshell, I think that is the only look for a Burst other than maybe an aged pearl, or no pickguard at all, but modern routing practices don't permit that..
This bass could well end up a bit of a chameleon, with interchangeable bits to suit my mood at least till I settle on 1 style.

Try also looking for steampunk control plates e.g. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Metal-bass...-/291731536465
Thanks Simon, those are cool, did not show up on OZ EBay, so your link has opened up a new window for me.... Back to the research.........
