I initially listened to it on my iPhone speaker and they both sounded the same. Now listened through proper speakers and there's a pronounced difference. It's all in the low end.

Though he's not really using a standard amp EQ set-up which is heavily influencing the basic sound.

P Bass sound was also influenced by having flat wounds compared to round wounds on the J Bass making it sound much brighter.

Tend to agree that the best way to deal with the topic/argument is to own one of each. Never been a complete fan of P Bass only as they can be a bit one dimensional but really loved some of the PJ combinations I had during early 1980's.

    Cool

I've owned p j and PJ. I'd rather have my Stingray 5. J for second choice.
Edit: just sold my P. And bought a J..

Always been intrigued with Stingrays but never owned or played one.

For me it's my Ric 4003 then J Bass followed by the EX-5 with it's split coiled humbuckers. A proper Steinberger and a Stingray would be nice to complete the dream team collection.

That's the way I've gone, one of each...I like each one equally, but differently

Hey KB, I'm well thanks (got a RDO todaz so a nice 3 day weekend - lots of time in the man cave as its raining in February !), I have got a PBH-4 and PB-4 and just ordered a JBA-4, picking it up today from Ads, I had to complete the F type bass collection !
    I am now interested in a MMB-4 build !

@ Simon and Waz well picked up he isn't really comparing apples with apples with the different type of strings and amp settings.
