Hi Kimball. Yes, I know can sound pretty negative at times. I'm a natural cynic and I know I tend to leave the good things unsaid and pick out the particular points that interest me. I'm certainly not trying to pick on you - if I seem that way then I sincerely apologise. On the other hand, it would be nice if you could comment a bit when you post links - what interested you about the link, have you got the product or know someone who has etc. So I'll try and be more positive in future (I really will), but I'll probably still comment if I think there are things that people should consider before thinking about buying a product or somebody giving incorrect advice in an instructional video etc.
England says hi! It's snowing here today, though very wet and its not laying. I have no idea how old you are, but just wondering if reasonably aged whether you've ever come across a mate of mine called Ivan Carling in the music scene around Cambridge? He's in his 70s now but is still playing gigs - sometimes on bass, sometimes on guitar. He was good friends with the early Pink Floyd (he depped with them a few times and drove them and their girlfriends to gigs), was in Jokers Wild and various other Cambridge bands of the '60s and '70s. He ended up being sound guy for the Soft Boys for a long while before disappearing off to Nashville for most of the '80s and early '90s. Or are you a fairly young lad and haven't got a clue what I'm talking about?
Hey Simon, I post reviews, free plugins to help others. I get the reviews from suppliers I have purchased from. I work with musicians from all over the world, if they've seen something that may be of interest I get an email or message. If they like it I'm sure someone else will. Ref the picking on me, I'm 6ft 2" so picking on me isn't a problem lol. It's just the negativity and your needs can't be above, possibly hundreds of tech heads that read and enjoy tech reviews gift etc. I originally started the Home Recording forum with Adam's and other members' interest as they thought it would be a good thing to compliment the guitar forum.
I travel to NAMM meet a variety of musicians from all the world. If I see something new or different I'll post it here. I've worked in a variety of studios all over the world. Love recording. Do I buy everything Simon? Er nope, impossible. But I have tried and demo'd an awful lot of of music gear.
I've been in the music business be it shops and recording studios for 40 years, used Pro Tools for the last 20. Currently mixing is my full time occupation. With jewelley making design as one of my passions (my wife seems to love it too). I have many pro musician friends but Ivan I don't know. I know Duncan Maletka fabulous keyboard player. . I'm a Bass player but play guitar and keyboards too. Davey Politt excellent Bass player, played with a variety of bands also from Cambridge. Martin Slavwn currently in charge of sound at Shakespeare Theatre. A variety of friends and connections at the BBC. George at Soundtown who seems to have worked with just about everyone and built many studios. Please contribute more.
But it would be nice if you would either check out the products, demo them before slating something you've not heard or tried Simon. As I say the Acme box sounded amazing but totally agree ref price. And did I sound like Jamerson? Nope. But someone that plays in his style and wanted his sound could possibly get closer. I don't have the time to come on and devote time to replies and comments. I'd love to but currently time is precious Ref family and work.
I miss the Snow in UK but not that dreadful slush Simon.
Best wishes kind regards
Kimball

Kimball, it's really nice to know where you're coming from. I haven't been on many forums but those I have (UK based and mainly Sound on Sound or offshoots thereof) it's been considered impolite for someone to simply post a link and say nothing about it, and continued action along those lines has normally resulted in them being banned. This of course is a very different forum, but with little to go on in the way of comments from yourself (except often in response to my comments), I had no ideas whether you were just an interested but reasonably informed amateur like myself, or someone with a lot more knowledge - which I now realise is very much the case.
Good luck Simon enjoy the forum, have fun. One thing I think is I do get sick of seeing links from manufacturers trying to drum up sales. Mine are mostly related to suppliers sending me offers that are genuine bargains, deals or as I said reviews buddies have shared.Or products that I've tried myself. I've never made a cent from kickbacks shame but true lol. I like to give the guys here a chance to get hold of the odd bargain.
Goodluck Simon Springs not far away now.
Best Wishes
Kimball

I think the great thing about this forum is the lack of trolls. And always good that it's a friendly helpful forum. Kind of a family feel. Thanks for your help and advise kimball much appreciated mate.
