Don't be too afraid of a wound .018". Certainly worth trying a set (presumably the D'Addario EXL110W set?). Remember that it's the core that gives most of the bending resistance, and that will be thinner than a normal 0.016" string. I doubt if you'd notice much difference at all.
Yes it's the 110w set. I ordered them and a new bone nut. That might solve the problem. My Tele build doesn't have that problem but I don't know what make the strings are. It's getting ignored now. There's a new kid on the block.
